Workshops

At-Bristol's KS2 workshops are available throughout the academic year and support a visit to At-Bristol. Presented by trained science communicators, our range of workshops provides engaging investigative skills in a range of broad, cross-curricula contexts.

All the workshops listed are £2.75 per pupil and last 1 hour. Minimum group size:12. Maximum group size:30.

Education entry rates and services are available weekdays in term-time, 10am to 5pm (last entry at 4.30pm.

The Water Cycle (Upper KS2)

Taking a practical approach to understanding the water cycle, pupils get hands-on with a range of exciting water-based experiments in At-Bristol's laboratories.

Go Animate!

Enter the fascinating world of animation with our brand new KS2 workshop, Go Animate!

From storyboarding to the effect of music, students will investigate the processes involved in producing an animation. They will write, direct, create and premier their own short films!

Dataheads (Upper KS2 only)

Pupils problem solve and plan an experiment, testing and designing their own dragster racers. With supporting challenges and numeracy activities, pupils explore, interpret and draw conclusions from their findings and consider how best to present their data.

Light and shadow

Look through the magic glass - now you see her, now you don't! Can you work out how the glowstick works? Students will use prisms to split light, mix coloured lights and investigate how light travels in this fun-filled interactive workshop.

Healthy bodies

An adventure through the human body following the journey of our food, this lively workshop uses challenges and demonstrations to give students an understanding of the role of a balanced diet in keeping the body healthy.

Fantastic forces

In this hands-on workshop students will investigate everyday forces and think about how they both help and hinder us. Through experimentation and fun activities, including making and testing paper spinners, students will make predictions, observations and record results as they learn how gravity and air resistance affect us.

Electricity Unearthed

From exploring the energy sources that bring electricity to our homes to building simple circuits, this workshop gets students investigating the conducting and insulating properties of materials, including the human body!

Earth, Sun and Moon

Students will find out how the movements of the Earth relate to day and night and the seasons with our amazing Magic Globe and 3D animations. Discover how astronauts explore space, make moon dials and sample some real space food in this fun-packed workshop.

Changing materials

Hear ice ‘scream’, see crispy rice burnt with a blow torch and explore the weirdness of slime in this fun workshop on changing material states. Students experiment with making cheese and launching effervescent rockets!

Science Theatre Shows

At-Bristol offers a range of exciting presenter-led shows in its Studio. Specially designed for school groups, these engaging shows link closely to the curriculum and include lively fun demonstrations and lots of audience participation.

All shows are £1.00 per pupil and last 30 minutes.

Studio shows minimum group size: 25. Maximum group size: 70.

Explore our five senses and put them to the test! Investigate emotions and illusions in this interactive show.

The splash and bubble show

KS1/Lower KS2

Investigate the science of soap with this fun and fizzing states-of-matter show. Have a go at making a giant bubble and watch foam go up in flames!

Take part in some illuminating experiments that explore the nature of light and how we experience colour.

How my body works

KS2/Lower KS3

This active show requires lots of audience participation as students see the effect of exercise on our bodies. Exciting demonstrations bring to life the science behind the body's key systems.

Launch it!

KS2/Lower KS3

With whizzes, bangs and rockets, this loud and exciting show investigates forces and explosions. Students are actively involved in decisions over friction, gravity and air resistance, as we explore the forces at work when launching a rocket.

Planetarium shows

At-Bristol offers unique presenter-led shows in the Planetarium. Specially designed for school groups, these engaging shows link closely to the curriculum and observe the Solar System.

All shows are £1.00 per pupil and last up to 30 minutes.

Maximum group size: 86.

NEW-Exploring the Solar System (KS2, Lower KS3)

In the unique and immersive setting of At-Bristol's Planetarium, students observe the motions of the Sun, Moon and stars across the sky and think about how this relates to Earth's place within our Solar System. They will be challenged to make similar observations from the surfaces of other planets to further their understanding of the nature of the Solar System.

Special theme days

These specially designed days challenge and excite students, providing enriching and cross-curricula experiences through a range of innovative activities including visiting experts in the field. Special theme days must be booked at least a month in advance and are available throughout the academic year.

Cost: £10 per student including entry to At-Bristol.

Duration: 4 hours.

Minimum group size: 20. Maximum group size: 60.

Maths Mission

Enjoy countless ways for new mathematicians to engage with numbers in a totally unique and exciting way! Developing essential team-working and problem-solving skills, pupils take part in an exciting adventure to unchartered territory using their understanding of shape, space and measures as vital tools to success.

NEW-Forensics

Forensic science is guaranteed to grab the attention of many students-TV programmes such as Crime Scene Investigators just touch the surface of this fascinating branch of science. In this specially designed day, students work in our laboratories to learn the basic techniques of crime scene investigation and forensic science, including fingerprinting, casting and DNA profiling, and analyse evidence from our specially prepared crime scene.

High Flyers

High Flyers is designed to introduce students and teachers to the fascinating science of flight. Students will learn how planes fly and follow a specially designed trail around At-Bristol's hands-on exhibits. They will take part in 'the drop challenge' and assisted by an expert from the field, they will work in teams to build their own aircraft and test it on our new Launch it exhibit.

Brain and body

Students will discover the amazing capabilities of the human brain and test their skills with a mind-bending day of challenges and conundrums, including an introduction to the senses, learning, thinking and memory skills.
